Everyone knows San Diego is a city of good Mexican food. We have touched on this a time or two in our previous blogs. We have talked about great taco shops, hole in the wall cantinas, and so on. Today, we are going to talk about a legitimate Mexican restaurant fully decked out with bright paper decor, Mariachi bands, and delicious food. Our favorite sit down Mexican restaurant is Casa de Pico in La Mesa.
Casa de Pico used to be located down in Old Town San Diego. They moved to the Grossmont center (which allows for better parking!). It is a beautiful, brightly decorated restaurant with an amazing patio and large inside sitting area. Fun Dineamic Duo fact, it is also the first restaurant Ian ever took me to in San Diego. This was back in 2014 before we were even dating! I was visiting San Diego with my lovely cousin, Cayla, for my 24th birthday. Lots of margaritas, carnitas, and fun was had that evening (from what I can remember!). It is another place we usually bring visitors (including my mommy).
Casa de Pico is a great place to get a hot plate of good Mexican food. They hand make the tortillas at the front of the restaurant. You can watch while you wait! The menu is expansive and full of your favorite classics such as tacos, carnitas, enchiladas, and chimichangas. I have never had a bad meal there. The combination platters are the way to go. In my opinion, the Señor Pico is the way to go. Carne, fresh tortillas, hard taco, cheese enchilada, guacamole, and refried beans. The carne is perfectly seasoned and grilled. It’s tender and melt in your mouth. The tortillas are warm and have a nice texture to them. The carnitas are also tender and flavorful. The beans and rice are the best side dishes to accompany all the meat selections! Ian mainly enjoys the burritos (Carne Asada and Machaca specifically – I ) and the chimichanga (who doesn’t love fried burritos!? – I ). From the Chile Verde to the Cheese Crisp Special, it’s all delicious. Legitimately, we have never had a disappointing meal.
Casa de Pico is the full package! Flavor, fun, and excitement. Bring your friends, family, co-workers, or whoever you want to enjoy a good meal!
Casa de Pico is a great dining experience – atmosphere to food. It is one of the few restaurants that has had a major relo and did not miss a beat in term of food quality. If in SD a must-try
