URGE Gastropub Oceanside

This week’s blog is sponsored by Sean Bassett and Tara Corti! Just kidding… we don’t have any sponsors (yet), but they are the ones who suggested this restaurant and joined us in dining there! I figured they deserved a little credit, because SPOILER ALERT, this place was great! Without further ado, I present to you the Dineamic Duo’s blog on URGE Gastropub in Oceanside.

One foggy Saturday night, Ian and I drove up to Oceanside to meet Sean and Tara for dinner at a place called URGE Gastropub. This place is HUGE and so is its menu and drink choices. On top of being a gastropub, it is also considered a whiskey bank (which you know is right up our alley). The decor is modern and rustic at the same time. The drinks were phenomenal (if you like a good Old Fashioned, this is the place for you).

Of course, we started our meal off with some apps (I’m a sucker for all things fried, battered, and shareable). We got the cheese curds and fried pickles. The cheese curds were exactly how we like ours– light, crunchy breading, melty cheese, and a killer sriracha aioli. Perfection in a deep fried batter. We all got something different for our entrees, which lead to a lot of sharing and a little arguing over whose was best! Ian got the chicken schnitzel. Expertly breaded and fried topped with a tangy mustard sauce. Sean got the “drive through” burger– picture a slightly elevated In N’ Out burger complete with creamy burger sauce. Tara got the brats and mash topped with crispy fried onions. Ian voted it “one of the best sausages he has ever had.” (Phrasing I know, right?). I got the URGE meatloaf. A yummy blend of meats topped with truffle gravy and served over their garlic mashed potatoes. Oh yeah and their delicious brussels sprouts on the side. Very homey and filling. Everyone was very, very satisfied. Except for Ian, who read the words “drunken carrot slab” and pouted until we ordered it. Ok ok to be fair… he was right. I’m not a huge carrot cake fan, but omigosh was this one good. The best part was the drizzled caramel and candied walnuts. Yummy! Definitely would recommend checking this place out if you want some good, wholesome food!

Pssttt… Wanna hear a secret? So URGE also has a secret speakeasy located inside of it. I will not share the entrance, nor will I get too much into detail (the secrecy is part of the fun), but it is a really cool hidden spot. The drinks there were INCREDIBLE. Handcrafted by a very talented bartender and basically customized to order. I had the best Old Fashioned I have ever had in my life. In fact, Ian, Sean, and I each had a different spin on an Old Fashioned, and they were all great! So do some research, and check it out! I won’t spill more than that, but definitely worth putting in the extra effort!
