Last weekend, I surprised Ian with a little trip. All week long, I had him thinking we were going somewhere far away. I told him he needed to pack hiking clothes, etc. I had him all stressed out that we were going on some crazy adventure, when lo and behold, we were really taking a staycation! A night at the Hotel Del Coronado! Talk about a little splurge! We treated ourselves to one night in the one of the Victorian rooms at the Del. Complete with pool time, cocktails at the hotel bar, and a nice dinner at the cozy Chez Loma.

Our stay at the Del started with drinks and a snack by the pool. Obviously, it was pricey. Best not to even discuss. Man, do they make a good drink there though. I personally recommend their Bloody Mary. It really hits the spot. We also grabbed a sandwich and cookie from one of the snack bars. The cookie was sublime- excellent chocolate. Then, we headed up to our room to get ready for our dinner reservations. Our room was located in the Victorian wing of the hotel. Right on the far side of the garden square. It was beautiful, luxurious, and spacious. We had a beautiful patio with a view. Once we were ready, we headed to our dinner reservations at Chez Loma.

Chez Loma is a little, cozy French bistro located about two blocks from the Del. It is situated in an old house that was built in 1889. It is quaint, charming, and romantic. The food was really good, but the atmosphere is what really made it. We started with the French onion soup- perfect ratio of crouton to cheese to onion. The char on top really took it over the top. We actually both got the same thing! The steak and fries. The steak was pretty good, but oh my gosh the fries were the all-star of the show. They were in the top three fries we have both ever enjoyed. The were skinny, crunchy, and perfectly potato-y. I could have gotten just the fries and been fine! We were too full for dessert, but they did have some yummy choices!

We wrapped up our evening with a few drinks at one of the hotel’s bars- The Babcock & Story Bar.  The mahogany bar top has been around for over 100 years, and it really has that good old school feel. Also, they make a mean Old Fashioned. Exactly how it should be! Sitting at that bar, sipping bourbon, you feel like you’re back in the early 1900s. Ian’s old timey accent helps set the scene.

We had a lavish, fun time at the Del. It totally fits our aesthetic, we are very much into antiques and Art Deco! Best part is, we didn’t even have a ghost sighting (and I was very grateful for that!). To be honest, we have totally added having brunch in the Crown Room onto our list of things to try!
